NLC Approved to Accept Veteran Benefits
May 7, 2018
Northeast Lakeview College, the newest institution in the Alamo Colleges District, has received official approval from the Department of Veterans Affairs to accept Veteran Benefits from students attending NLC. The college received its Facility Code on May 14 after a site visit in February.
Receiving the Facility Code allows Northeast Lakeview College to now certify students to use their Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill® , Chapter 33 Post 9-11 GI Bill® , Chapter 35 Survivor benefits, and Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation benefits . Additionally, NLC can now sign the Department of Defense MOU to receive active duty assistance, however this process will take 30-90 days after approval date .
“This is a huge milestone for our college,” says Dr. Veronica Garcia, Northeast Lakeview College President. “We can now expand services to our student Veterans and their families.”
Prior to receiving approval, students attending NLC using Veteran benefits were registered under San Antonio College, a sister institution within the Alamo Colleges District. Northeast Lakeview College has been working diligently with the TVC since December 2017 when NLC received its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on College (SACSCOC) – at which time, Northeast Lakeview College became eligible to apply to offer full Veteran benefits.
Moving forward, students registering for Summer 2018 and Fall 2018 courses can use Veteran benefits and register through Northeast Lakeview College.
